Speckled Frogs Arthouse offers a creative, interactive program within a warm, friendly home environment for children ages 5-9 years! Our beautiful home is located only one block from Varsity Acres Elementary and includes pick-up and drop-off for grade school and p.m. kindergarten slots only. We have a number of volunteers and a couple ladies on staff who are able to come in and help out as needed, so we are able to keep our doors open on a consistent basis. Drop-in or part-time care can be made available to families, though precedence will be given to those families looking for before and after school care on a full time basis.
Our facility has been recently expanded to include an open concept art studio, an indoor playground/clubhouse and a new cozy corner for those children looking for a quiet space wherein to relax and read. Our main playroom upstairs is spacious, bright and complete with an array of altering activities/toys from our inventory to keep those young minds stimulated and happy!! We are a MEDIA FREE ZONE!! We do not find that children need the excessive stimulation of television/computer or video games, so we ask that parents refrain from sending their children with any of these items. Of course the occasional treat, such as our annual Christmas film with popcorn, is always a delight!
Outdoor play, fresh air and exercise is a must at Speckled Frogs, so pack your outdoor gear and get ready to romp in our stimulating environment out back. Our outdoor play space is an ideal setting for creative, active fun, with an ever-changing landscape, complete with a massive sand area, TRAMPOLINE, SWINGS, TREEHOUSE and stump mountain! We also embark on a field trip every Friday, as well as daily school runs and trips to the playground at our own Varsity Acres Elementary School with our two adorable dogs! During the summer months, we bump these excursions up to two outings per week, including everything from local attractions such as the Calgary Zoo, to day trips in the surrounding area. Larger scale outings will be posted and signed off well in advance and have included everything from the Tyrell Museum and Kananaskis Country to the Discovery Wildlife Park and a tour of our very own Bernard Callebaut Chocolate Factory!
Registration for our upcoming summer program opens in April, so be sure to contact our resident artist and director, Jennifer Peters-Heslop, via email speckledfrogsarthouse@gmail.com to book your spot.
